Our co-op – we own it! By being a member of PFC you own a local business, have a say in how it’s run, support great education and outreach programs, and join a vital part of the Ann Arbor community. Invest $60, get great benefits, and get a membership refund if you leave – it’s almost like it’s free! And remember,  there are opportunities for members to volunteer and be appreciated.

Joining PFC

  • Becoming a member-owner doesn’t really “cost” anything.
  • You simply make a $60 investment, which is fully refundable for any reason.
  • There are no annual fees!
  • It’s easy to join! Next time you’re in the store, tell your cashier you want to become a member. Then fill out the short information form and make your investment – that’s it!
  • Each member receives two membership cards and may share one with another household member.
  • Monthly installment payment is available: $20 the first month (including a non-refundable $10 processing fee), then $10 per month for 5 months.
  • Special payment arrangements may be made for anyone who participates in a state or federal assistance program. Call the PFC office at (734)769-0095.
  • Member Orientation is recommended for all newcomers and is required for those wishing to volunteer. Check the clipboard at the front of the store to sign up.

Benefits of Being a Member

Community Ownership – PFC is Ann Arbor’s only community-owned grocery store and café! Community ownership means members have a say in how the business is run. Community ownership preserves and celebrates what is unique and local. Community ownership fights corporate hegemony!

Board Representation – A Board of seven elected co-op members represents PFC’s members. PFC’s Board sets policy and supervises the operations of the co-op. Each co-op member gets one vote. Click here to read more about the Board.

Member Rebate – In years when the co-op is profitable, members may receive a rebate on their purchases. After the co-op’s yearly finances have been reviewed, the Board of Directors decides what percentage of the profit should be retained (to develop the co-op) and what percentage can be returned to members as a rebate.

Healthy Advantage Specials and Discounts ? Healthy Advantage Specials are rotating monthly items on sale for co-op members. Check in the store for the yellow Member Special sale signs.

Senior Discount – Anyone 60 and over qualifies for our 10% Senior Discount on Wednesdays.

Member Appreciation Day – A celebration just for members, including special activities, a 10% discount, free samples, and plenty of fun.

Member Coupons – Included in the PFC Connection newsletter, these member-only coupons offer special savings.

Healthy Savings – Do you always use the same soymilk? Are you feeding a large group? Do you like saving money through bulk buying? As a member you can participate in this deep-discount ordering program. Order case quantities from our suppliers’ catalogs, fill out the order paperwork yourself, and save approximately 15-50% off the shelf price! Members interested in Healthy Savings should attend a Healthy Savings Orientation to learn how to use catalogs and fill out ordering paperwork.

Community Discount Program – PFC members can show their card and enjoy specials and savings at over 30 locally owned businesses. The CDP Brochure can be picked up at the store or viewed on-line.

Newsletter – The PFC Connection is our very own bi-monthly newsletter. Members receive the newsletter by mail, or they can pick it up in the store to help reduce postage costs. Read about co-op events, food and community issues, staff profiles and tasty recipes and cooking tips.

Volunteer Program

Love the Co-op? Enjoy people? Like to lend a hand? PFC may have the perfect volunteer job for you! Volunteering is not a requirement for membership, but there are plenty of opportunities for members to bring their gifts and talents to the Co-op. Members are invited to attend a volunteer orientation and come work in the store and at special events in the community. Members interested in volunteering should contact the Outreach & Education office at (734) 994-4589.
