As a cooperative, we not
only serve our members, but also work for the sustainable development of our
community. PFC values people and the environment, encouraging cooperation and
connection in our diverse and expanding community. We're so much more than a
grocery store!
We’re a Co-op!
What’s the difference? Co-ops are unlike other
businesses because of their economic structure and concern for community. PFC
offers much more than a standard health food store!
FAQ’s
What is a cooperative?
Co-ops are businesses owned by their members, and
there are many different types of cooperatives in operation all over the world.

Do I have to be a member to shop?
No you don’t, but why wouldn’t you become
one? Anyone can shop at PFC, and anyone can become a member and receive the
Benefits of Membership
there are plenty!
As a co-op member do I have to volunteer?
No, but you may choose to volunteer 4 hours per
month to receive a Volunteer Discount: 7% off all purchases at the register.

Is the co-op more expensive than a regular grocery store?
It depends on the item. Bulk items (beans,
grains, flours, etc.) may be cheaper for you because the co-op buys them in
large quantities. Organic produce may cost more than conventional because of
costs to the farmer, lack of government subsidies, or higher quality of goods.
Though we don’t have the buying power of a huge grocery chain, we balance our
product mix to benefit our shoppers and our local growers and producers. Remember
that PFC has two bottom lines: our finances and our community. By shopping here
you help us help others!
What is the member rebate system?
In 1999 PFC switched to a Member Rebate program
from a register discount. In profitable years, the Board of Directors decides
what percentage of PFC’s profit to use in developing the co-op, and what
percentage to return to members as a rebate on their purchases. Member purchase
amounts are recorded throughout the year, and rebates are usually issued in the
spring.
