Because
we’re a cooperative we have a responsibility to educate and
lend support to our community. Our Department of Outreach &
Education coordinates in-store education, organizes and attends
community events, sponsors lectures and classes, and offers donations
to make our community stronger.
In-Store
Education
We keep our customers informed about food
and community issues by making space in the store for informational
displays and calls to action. PFC offers shoppers a resource library of
books about cooking, food, health, homeopathy, herbs and many other
subjects. In addition, there are free pamphlets and flyers with
product, health and nutrition information. Be sure to check out our
assortment of free recipe cards!
Education
Programs
PFC sponsors classes and events to educate
and build community. Click here to check out the schedule. We have applications
available for those wishing to lead a workshop or lecture.
Community
Support
PFC is committed to promoting community
health and sustainability. That’s why we have an in-store
Community Board for posting event flyers and posters, and why we
participate in community events sponsored by other area organizations.
PFC is happy, when able, to donate
merchandise and/or gift certificates to community organizations. Being
a not-for-profit ourselves, our funds are limited and we are not able
to grant every request. Please look over our donations philosophy and
guidelines.
Donations
Philosophy
PFC seeks to support non-profit
organizations that are working to increase the health of the community
and/or the environment. This includes organizations that
address food issues, community building, sustainability, environmental
preservation, cooperative values, or alternative/complementary health
care
Donations
Guidelines:
- The organization’s mission
must be in line with PFC’s Donations Philosophy.
- Donation request must be made 10 days
before donation is needed.
- Priority is given to organizations that
are local.
- Priority is given to organizations that
support PFC.
Co-op Cash Program
PFC offers a limited amount of support to
local schools and non-profit organizations through this scrip (grocery
voucher) program. PFC sells certificates in $5, $10 and $20 increments
at 95% of face value; organizations keep the 5% difference when they
sell them at full price.
